On a tracked excavator the carrier roller (top roller) carries only the weight of the track itself - yet in practice it is the undercarriage part that fails earliest. Two reasons: it runs unlubricated for long periods and it sits closest to the mud, so the seal is the first thing to go. Once the seal lets water in, the bearing fails within a few hundred hours and the roller starts to drag.
Track rollers (bottom rollers) live a longer life, but they carry the full machine weight. On a 22-30 tonne class machine working in rock, a bottom roller that has lost its seal will lock up and start cutting into the chain bushings.
| Check | Limit | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Radial play in the roller | > 1.0 mm | Replace |
| Axial play | > 1.5 mm | Replace |
| Wear surface groove | > 2 mm depth | Replace |
| Oil weeping at seal | Any | Replace |
| Flange height (track roller) | Below OEM minimum | Replace |
Carrier rollers on a 20-22 tonne machine (LiuGong 922E, XCMG XE215C, SANY SY215C class) typically last 4,000-6,000 hours in clean conditions, and as little as 2,000 hours in wet quarry work.
Chinese excavators are built in large batches with running changes. The same model year can use two different roller part numbers depending on the undercarriage supplier (often a Chinese specialist factory) and the track pitch. That is why we always ask for:
Without those three, a roller can be dimensionally correct and still not fit the track frame mounting.
For undercarriage we usually quote three tiers: OEM (original supplier), premium aftermarket (verified Chinese undercarriage factories, 12-month warranty on our side) and standard aftermarket (price-led, suitable for short-life or standby machines). Wear life between premium and OEM is typically 75-90% at roughly half the price; standard aftermarket should be treated as a consumable.
Send us the machine details and quantity and we will come back with a price, tier and lead time - usually within 24 hours.
