The bucket edge is the cheapest part to replace and the most expensive to ignore
On wheel loaders such as LiuGong CLG856 and CLG856H, XCMG ZL50GN, SDLG LG956L, SANY SW956 and 5-tonne class machines generally, the bucket cutting edge, bolt-on segments and heel liners take the abrasive load so the bucket shell does not. When they are ignored, the bottom plate wears through and the repair moves from a bolt-on part to a welding job.
Wear parts in the loader bucket
- Bolt-on cutting edge (single or double duty, straight or with a spade nose).
- Bolt-on bucket teeth and adapters, with the matching plow bolts and nuts.
- Heel liners and side cutters, which protect the corner welds.
- Wear strips and bottom liners for high-abrasion applications such as slag and quarry feed.
- Bucket pins, bushings and the quick coupler if the machine uses one.
| Part | Function | Typical inspection interval |
| Bolt-on cutting edge | Main ground-engaging edge | 250 hours |
| Bolt-on teeth and adapters | Penetration and corner protection | 250 hours |
| Heel liners | Protect the bucket heel | 500 hours |
| Side cutters | Protect corner welds | 500 hours |
| Bottom wear strips | Protect the shell plate | 500 hours |
| Bucket pins and bushings | Linkage play | 500 hours |
Choosing the right cutting edge
- Measure the bucket width and the bolt hole spacing, not only the machine model: several edges fit the same loader.
- Double duty edges last longer in abrasive material but need more breakout force.
- Spade nose edges improve penetration in compacted stockpiles.
- Confirm bolt size, grade and count: reusing worn plow bolts is a common cause of edge loss in the field.
- For high-abrasion work, choose a boron or hardened edge rather than a standard carbon steel edge.
Teeth and adapters
- Pin-on and bolt-on adapter systems are not interchangeable; identify the system before ordering teeth.
- Match tooth profile to material: standard for sand and gravel, rock or tiger for compacted and hard material.
- Replace adapters when wear exceeds roughly 10 percent of original thickness, otherwise new teeth sit loose.
Fitment and service tips
- Re-torque plow bolts after the first 10 hours and then at every service interval.
- Never weld a worn tooth onto a worn adapter as a field repair: it shortens the life of the new parts.
- Keep one spare set of edges and teeth per loader in the fleet to avoid unplanned downtime.
Supply tiers and warranty
- Genuine: original manufacturer parts, exact geometry and material certification.
- OEM: same design without the brand mark, the usual choice for fleet standardisation.
- Premium: hardened or boron steel option for abrasive duty, 6 to 12 months warranty.
- Standard: economical carbon steel option for light duty, 3 to 6 months warranty.
Warranty covers manufacturing defects and dimensional accuracy, not normal abrasive wear.
