Wheel loader transmissions and axles endure the most punishing load cycles in any construction fleet. A mid-size loader (5-ton bucket class, e.g., LiuGong CLG856 or XCMG LW500) cycles its transmission between forward/reverse 300-500 times per shift. Without disciplined maintenance, major transmission failure occurs at 4,000-6,000 hours—versus 10,000+ with proper care.
