Aftermarket parts are made by many factories with different steel grades, heat treatment and machining tolerances. The good ones are indistinguishable from OEM; the bad ones fail early and damage adjacent parts.
The good news: quality can be checked before installation with a few simple methods.
Check surface finish on machined surfaces — rough or uneven finish suggests poor machining control. Check for burrs, cracks, or casting defects on housings and gears.
Measure critical dimensions with calipers and compare to OEM. For track chain, check pin and bushing hardness with a file test — a file should barely bite a hardened pin.

Ask for material test certificates (mill certificates) for forged and machined parts. Check the steel grade matches the application — track shoes need wear-resistant steel, not plain carbon steel.
For bucket teeth and cutting edges, check hardness (typically 45–55 HRC for wear parts) and impact toughness.
For seals, check the rubber compound and hardness — a seal kit that feels hard or brittle at room temperature will fail quickly.
Pumps, motors and valves should be bench-tested before shipment. Ask for test data: flow rate, pressure, efficiency at rated conditions.
A verified supplier will happily provide test reports. If a supplier cannot or will not, treat the part as unverified.
